Peranda, Marco Gioseppe
Peranda, Marco Gioseppe , important Italian composer; b. Rome or Macerata, e. 1625; d. Dresden, Jan. 12, 1675. He was taken by Christoph Bernhard to Dresden, where he was an alto in the chapel of the heir to the electorate. He sang with the chapel after it was incorporated into the court (1656), then was made vice-Kapellmeister (1661), Kapellmeister (1663), and 1st Hofkapellmeister (1672). Although a Roman Catholic at a Lutheran court, he earned the greatest esteem. He was a distinguished composer of sacred concertos and motets, and influenced many of his German contemporaries.
