Pommier, Jean-Bernard
Pommier, Jean-Bernard , French pianist and conductor; b. Béziers, Aug. 17, 1944. He began piano lessons at 4 with Mina Kosloff. In 1958 he entered the Paris Cons., where he continued his studies with Yves Nat and Pierre Sancan. After taking the premier prix there in 1961, he completed his training with Eugene Istomin. In 1960 he won 1st prize in the Jeunesses Musicales competition in Berlin, and then began to make regular appearances in Europe. In 1971 he made his first appearance at the Salzburg Festival. During the 1973–74 season, he made his first appearances in the U.S. In subsequent years, his career took him to most of the principal music centers of the world. From 1980 he also pursued a career as a conductor.
