Poss, Georg
Poss, Georg , German trumpeter, cornet player, and composer; b. Franconia, c. 1570; d. Rothwaltersdorf, after 1633. He served as a trumpeter to Archduke Maximilian in Franconia from 1594. After his patron sent him to Venice for further training, he was in the service of Archduke Ferdinand in Graz (1597–1618). From 1618 to 1622 he was Kapellmeister to Archduke Karl, Bishop of Bixen and Breslau, at his court in Neisse, Silesia. Through his music, Poss helped to introduce the Venetian style of composition to Austria.

Liber primus missarum for 6 to 8 Voices (Graz, 1607); Orpheus mixtus, liber primus for 8 to 16 Voices (Graz, 1607); 2 motets for 2 and 4 Voices and Basso Continuo (1615); other sacred vocal pieces.
