Praupner, Václav (Josef Bartoloměj)
Praupner, Václav (Josef Bartoloměj) , Bohemian violinist, organist, choirmaster, teacher, and composer, brother of Jan (Josef) Praupner; b. Litoměřice, Aug. 18, 1745; d. Prague, April 1, 1807. He studied music at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Litoměřice and philosophy and theology in Prague, where he settled. He was active as a director of theater orchs. and as a choirmaster at various churches, among them the Tyn and Crusader’s churches (from 1794). In 1803 he was elected the first director of the Tonkunstler- Sozietät. He composed the melodrama Circe (1789; Prague, 1794), syms., concertos, and sacred music.
