Raasted, Niels Otto

Raasted, Niels Otto , Danish organist, conductor, and composer; b. Copenhagen, Nov. 26, 1888; d. there, Dec. 31, 1966. He studied at the Copenhagen Cons. (1909–12), then at the Leipzig Cons. with Reger, Straube, and Teichmüller (1913–14). Returning to Denmark, he became organist at Copenhagen Cathedral, and he also conducted the Bach Soc. (1925–46).

(1914, 1938, 1944); orch. suites, among them Pictures from Finland (1928) and Hans Christian Andersen Suite (1940); Sinfonia da chiesa (1944).CHAMBER: 3 string quartets (1914, 1918, 1920); 5 violin sonatas; 6 organ sonatas. VOCAL: Saul, oratorio (1923); 3 cantatas (all perf. on Copenhagen Radio): Sangen om Kbenhavn (June 27, 1934), Thy-lands pris (May 12, 1941), and Kong Vaar (Oct. 20, 1947).
