Rinck, Johann Christian Heinrich

Rinck, Johann Christian Heinrich , famous German organist, teacher, and composer; b. Elgersburg, Thuringia, Feb. 18, 1770; d. Darmstadt, Aug. 7, 1846. He studied under Kittel in Erfurt (1786–89). He was town organist at Giessen (1790–1805) before settling in Darmstadt, where he was organist and teacher at the music school (from 1805); became court organist there in 1813, and chamber musician in 1817. One of the foremost players of the time, he made frequent concert tours. In addition to much music for organ, he wrote masses, cantatas, and motets. He publ. an autobiography (Breslau, 1833).
