Ripa (y Blanque), Antonio , Spanish composer; b. Tarazona, c. 1720; d. Seville, Nov. 3, 1795. He was a choirboy at Tarazona Cathedral, where he was named maestro de capilla when he was only 17. After studying at the diocesan seminary and entering the priesthood, he served as maestro de capilla at the Carmelite nuns’ church in Saragossa, then at Cuenca Cathedral, and finally at Seville Cathedral (from 1768). He wrote a distinguished canon of sacred music, including 10 masses, 39 vesper psalms, 11 Lamentations, 140 villan-cicos, and many other scores.
