Ruhnke, Martin
Ruhnke, Martin , German musicologist; b. Köslin, June 14, 1921. He studied with Blume at the Univ. of Kiel (Ph.D., 1954, with the diss. Joachim Burmeister: Ein Beitrag zur Musiklehre um 1600; publ. in Kassel, 1955). After serving as an asst. lecturer at the Free Univ. in Berlin (1954–60), he completed his Habilitation there in 1961 with his Beiträge zu einer Geschichte der deutschen Hofmusikkolegien im 16. Jahrhundert (publ. in Berlin, 1963). In 1964 he became prof. of musicology at the Univ. of Erlangen. As an authority on Telemann, he served as general ed. of the complete critical edition of that composer’s works (from 1960) and as ed. of Georg Philipp Telemann: Thematisch-Systematisches Verzeichnis seiner Werke: Instrumentalwerke (2 vols., Kassel, 1984, 1992). From 1968 to 1974 he was president of the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung. He was president of the Internationalen Telemann-Gesellschaft from 1991.
