Salas y Castro, Esteban
Salas y Castro, Esteban , Cuban composer; b. Havana, Dec. 25, 1725; d. Santiago de Cuba, July 14, 1803. He studied organ and theology. In 1764 became maestro de capilla in Santiago de Cuba and was also active as a conductor of a chamber ensemble. He became a priest in 1790, and subsequently taught philosophy, theology, and ethics. He wrote mainly villan-cicos.
