Salomon, (Naphtali) Siegfried
Salomon, (Naphtali) Siegfried , Danish cellist and composer; b. Copenhagen, Aug. 3, 1885; d. there, Oct. 29, 1962. He studied with Rudinger, Mailing, and Bondesen at the Copenhagen Cons. (1899–1902), Klengel in Leipzig, and Le Flem in Paris. Returning to Copenhagen, he was principal cellist in the Tivoli Orch. (from 1903) and a cellist in the Royal Orch. (1907–56). He also pursued a solo career. He wrote an opera, Leonora Christina (1926); 2 syms. (1916, 1920); Violin Concerto (1916); 2 cello concertos (1922, 1958); Piano Concerto (1947); 6 string quartets and other chamber music; piano pieces; songs.
