Stella, Antonietta

Stella, Antonietta, Italian soprano; b. Perugia, March 15, 1929. She studied voice with Aldo Zeetti in Perugia. She made her operatic debut in Rome as Leonore in La forza del destino in 1951; in 1953 she sang at La Scala in Milan; further engagements were at Covent Garden in London (1955) and at the Vienna State Opera. She made her American debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. on Nov. 13, 1956, as Aida; after remaining on its roster until 1960, she pursued her career in Europe.
