Strategier, Herman

Strategier, Herman, Dutch composer, organist, and teacher; b. Arnhem, Aug. 10, 1912; d. Doorwerth, Oct. 26, 1988. He studied music with his father, a church organist, and with H. Andriessen. He succeeded his father as organist at St. Walpurgis at Arnhem in 1935, but the church was destroyed in war action in 1944. He taught at the Inst. for Catholic Church Music in Utrecht (1939–63); also taught there at the Cons. and at the Univ., and likewise at the Univ. of Rotterdam. He was notable mainly as a composer of liturgical music of the Roman Catholic rite.
