Taktakishvili, Shalva (Mikhailovich)
Russian conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Kvemo-Khviti, Aug. 27, 1900; d. Tbilisi, July 18, 1965. He studied at the Tiflis Cons. He then taught theory at the Batumi Music School, of which he was a co-founder; then served as conductor at Tbilisi Radio. From 1952 to his death he conducted the Georgian State Orch.

dramatic: Opera: Rassvet (Sunrise; 1923); Deputat (The Delegate; 1939); Otarova vdnova (1942). ORCH.: The Year 1905, symphonic poem (1931); Cello Concerto (1932); 2 overtures (1944, 1949). CHAMBER: 2 string quartets (1930, 1933); Violin Sonata (1952); numerous piano pieces. VOCAL: Choruses; songs.
