Taube, Michael, Polish-born Israeli conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Łódź, March 13, 1890; d. Tel Aviv, Feb. 23, 1972. He studied at the Leipzig Cons, and with Neitzel (piano), Strässer (composition), and Aben-droth (conducting) in Cologne. In 1918 he founded the Bad Godesberg Concert Soc. In 1924 he became a conductor at the Berlin Städtische Oper, and also was founder-conductor of the his own chamber orch. and choir (from 1926). In 1935 he emigrated to Palestine. After appearing as a conductor with the Palestine Sym. Orch., he founded the Ramat Gan Chamber Orch., which he took on tours abroad. He also appeared as a guest conductor in Europe and was active as a teacher of voice and conducting. Taube composed orch. pieces and chamber music
