Tikotsky, Evgeni (Karlovich)
Tikotsky, Evgeni (Karlovich), Russian composer of Polish descent; b. St. Petersburg, Dec. 25, 1893; d. Minsk, Nov. 24, 1970. He studied composition with Volkova-Bonch-Bruievich in St. Petersburg (1912-14) before pursuing the study of physics and mathematics at the Univ. there (1914-15). He taught in a music school in Bobruysk (1927-34); then settled in Minsk, where he taught at the music school (1934-41); was artistic director of the Belorussian State Phil. (1944-45; 1953-57). In 1944 he received the Order of Lenin and in 1955 was made a People’s Artist of the U.S.S.R.
