Tubin, Eduard
Tubin, Eduard, Estonian-born Swedish composer and conductor; b. Kallaste, near Tartu, June 18, 1905; d. Stockholm, Nov. 17, 1982. He studied with A. Kapp at the Tartu Cons. and later with Kodály in Budapest. From 1931 to 1944 he conducted the Vanemuine Theater Orch. in Tartu. In 1944 he settled in Stockholm and in 1961 became a naturalized Swedish citizen. In 1982 he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He was at work on his 11thSym. at the time of his death.
