Tzipine, Georges
Tzipine, Georges, French conductor; b. Paris, June 22,1907; d. there, Dec. 8,1987. He studied violin at the Paris Cons., winning a premier prix. He made his debut as a violinist with the Paris Radio (1926), then pursued training in harmony, counterpoint, and conducting. In 1931 he began his career as a conductor with the Paris Radio; after further studies with Marc de Ranee and Reynaldo Hahn, he appeared as a guest conductor with various Paris orchs. and toured France as a ballet conductor. He was music director of the Cannes Casino (1945-49); then toured Europe and North and South America as a guest conductor. After serving as music director of the Melbourne Sym. Orch. (1961-65), he taught conducting at the Paris Cons, (from 1966).
