Ursprung, Otto
Ursprung, Otto, learned German musicologist; b. Günzlhofen, Jan. 16,1879; d. Schöndorf-am-Ammersee, Sept. 14, 1960. He studied philosophy and theology at the Univ. of Munich (1899-1904) and was ordained as a Catholic priest. He then returned to the Univ. of Munich (Ph.D., 1911, with the diss. Jacobus de Kerle: sein Leben und seine Werke (1531/32-91);publ, in Munich, 1913), holding the title of honorary prof, of music history there (1932-49). He was an authority on Catholic church music and the musical history of Munich.
