Visée, Robert de
Visée, Robert de, French guitarist, theorbo and viol player, singer, and composer; b. c. 1650; d. c. 1725. About 1680 he became a chamber musician to Louis XIV. He was guitar teacher to the King from 1695, a position he held officially from 1719; he also sang in the royal chapel from 1709. His guitar works have been ed. by R. Strizich (Paris, 1971).
