Vrebalov, Aleksandra

Vrebalov, Aleksandra, promising Yugoslav composer; b. Novi Sad, Sept. 22, 1970. She studied composition with Miroslav Slatkic at the Novi Sad Univ. (B.M., 1992), with Zoran Erich at Belgrade Univ. (1993-94), with Elinor Armer at the San Francisco cons. (M.M., 1996), and with Ivana Loudova at the Prague Academy of Music (1997). She held residencies at the MacDowell Colony (1998) and at Tanglewood (1999), and in 2000 was a fellow at the Rockefeller Bellagio Center in Italy. Her works have been widely performed throughout the U.S., her Timesfor Orch. (1995) winning both the Highsmith Composition Competition of the SFCM (1996) and the Vienna Modern Masters Recording Award (1997).
