Wagner, (Helferich) Siegfried (Richard) (b Tribschen, Lucerne, 1869; d Bayreuth, 1930). Ger. composer and conductor. Only son of Richard Wagner and Cosima Wagner (then von Bülow). Educated as architect, but turned to mus. Ass. cond. Bayreuth 1894, cond. (left-handed) Der Ring des Nibelungen perfs. there 1896, 1897, 1899, 1901, 1902, 1906, 1911, 1912, and 1928. Succeeded mother as art. dir., Bayreuth Fest. from 1908, producer from 1901. Married Englishwoman Winifred Williams (1894–1980) who dir. Bayreuth 1931–44. Wrote 13 operas, incl. Der Bärenhäuter (1898), Der Kobold (1903), An allem ist Hütchen schuld (1914), and Der Schmied von Marienburg (1920), sym.-poems, vn. conc. (1915), and sym. (1925).
