Westergaard, Svend

Westergaard, Svend, Danish composer and pedagogue; b. Copenhagen, Oct. 8,1922; d. Hillerd, near Copenhagen, June 22, 1988. He studied composition with Hffding, Hjelmborg, and Jersild at the Copenhagen Cons. He began teaching there in 1951, serving as a prof. of theory (from 1967) and also its director (1967-71). He publ. the study Harmonilaere (Copenhagen, 1961).
