Whittall, Arnold (Morgan) (b Shrewsbury, 1935). Eng. musicologist. Univ. posts at Nottingham 1964–9, Cardiff 1969–75, and King's Coll., London, from 1976. Expert in analysis of works by Schoenberg, Britten, Webern, and other 20th cent. composers. Author of study of Britten and Tippett.
