Wilder, Philip van
Wilder, Philip van, Flemish-born English lutenist and composer; b. c. 1500; d. London, Feb. 24, 1553. He entered the service of King Henry VIII of England about 1520. He later was placed in charge of the king’s private music, and also taught lute to Princess Mary. Wilder was held in high regard at the court. Among his works are both sacred and secular vocal pieces and some instrumental music.
