SIDELIGHTS:
Michael Abrams is a pseudonym for Todd Michael, a former emergency room physician who gave up medical practice to concentrate on spiritual advice. He looked at death and dying with his The Evolution Angel: An Emergency Physician's Lessons with Death and the Divine. His 2004 book, The Twelve Conditions of a Miracle: The Miracle Worker's Handbook, examines the biblical miracles Christ performed. According to Abrams, such miracle-working was taken out of its metaphysical context by Christianity. Abrams believes that Jesus had esoteric and technical metaphysical knowledge as well as scientific knowledge as deep as today's quantum physicists. Abrams attempts to show how all people can create such miracles in their daily lives. Working from the ancient Greek in which the Gospel according to St. Matthew was written, Abrams claims to have found the secrets of such miracle-working. In his book he presents twelve conditions, such as emptiness and alignment, necessary in order to create actual miracles in one's own life. Deanna Joseph, writing in BellaOnline recommended the book "to anyone interested in transforming their life and living a life of miracles." Written as Todd Michael, The Hidden Parables: Activating the Secret Power of the Gospels, further investigates "hidden" messages in the bible. Reviewing the work in the Library Journal, Steve Young found the author's knowledge of Greek, necessary for translating the bible, to be "limited," and his "knowledge of theoretical physics … that of a wide-eyed amateur." Nonetheless, Young found the author's readings and interpretations of portions of the Bible to be "sometimes insightful and inventive, and the spiritual exercises provided for implementing each parable are useful and empowering."
