PERSONAL:
Born August 23, 1923, in Baghdad, Iraq; died June 20, 2007, in Cairo, Egypt; daughter of Sadiq al-Malaika (a language teacher) and Um Nizar al-Malaika (a poet); married Abdel-Hadi Mahbouba, 1961; children: a son. Education: College of Arts in Baghdad, B.A., 1944; studied at Princeton University; University of Wisconsin, M.A., 1958.
CAREER:
Poet and short-story writer. Taught Arabic and literature in Iraqi schools and universities for forty years, including University of Mosul, University of Baghdad, and University of Kuwait.
