Paige Alisen told CA: "Because of my own experiences with severe child abuse and the subsequent education I received, I was in a unique position to write about the social, political, economic, and personal causes and consequences of violence against women and children. I am writing and working to make a positive difference in the lives of abuse survivors, helping them to make connections between violence in their own lives to larger systems of institutional oppression. Survivors can also begin to connect the myriad ways in which abuse affects their lives: medically, physically, psychologically, and behaviorally, and to learn new, holistic strategies for healing. By healing our individual selves, we heal our communities and society. Personal healing then becomes very political—a necessary condition for long-term social change.

"I write because I can, because I am obliged to share my story and to help educate and empower others. I speak for the many women and children who can't.

"My goal is to open a nonprofit women's residential healing center for trauma survivors."
