SIDELIGHTS: Lars Ardelius is a Swedish author of fiction who has also written several autobiographies, including Barnsben, which was nominated for a literature prize. In Livtag, he writes of his family, various jobs, and the writing community of which he has been a part. Ardelius notes his preferences in the areas of both literature and fine art and comments on his life as a child, his politics, and his struggle with alcoholism. Ardelius is also open about his fragile relationship with is father, who ended his life and left a note that blamed his son, in part, for his suicide.
Bitvargen is an account of Ardelius's life from age forty-five to sixty. He writes touchingly of his sister's death from alcoholism at the age of thirty-five. Charlotte Schiander Gray reviewed the book in World Literature Today, noting that "Ardelius's accounts of his writing, his periods of writer's block, and his searches for inspiration are illustrative and at times humorous" and that his "extensive portrayals of people and events are part of a continual quest for meaning and identity."
