SIDELIGHTS:
Stephen P. Beeler told CA: "I was in the hospital facing a fifty-fifty cancer operation. Writing helped me get my mind off my problems. The writing is influenced by my experiences and a desire to have people 'feel' what police work is really like. My writing process is to get up at five o'clock in the morning, make coffee, lock myself in my library, take fifteen minutes to work myself into character, and then start writing on a legal tablet. I am inspired by my experiences with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the many people I met along the way."
