SIDELIGHTS:
Robin K. Bennett is a U.S. Marine Corps officer and dog trainer. Born on June 6, 1964, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Bennett married Greg Bennett, also a Marine. Through her service, she received the joint service commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps commendation medal.
In 2005 Bennett published her first book, All about Dog Daycare: A Blueprint for Success. The book serves as a guide for dog day- care owners, providing information on licensing, grooming, legal concerns, financial affairs, and insurance matters. A contributor to the Midwest Book Review "very strongly recommended" the book to anyone "seeking good day care arrangements for their animal companion." With Susan Briggs, Bennett published Off-Leash Dog Play: A Complete Guide to Safety and Fun two years later.
Robin K. Bennett told CA: "I am the owner of All About Dogs, Inc., the largest dog-training facility in Northwest Virginia. I started my company in 1993 doing private obedience classes in owners' homes. I have since extended my business to include several family pet dog training classes, behavior modification lessons, and temperament evaluations.
"I successfully owned and operated my own dog day care for many years and am a dog day-care consultant. I am a national speaker and have presented seminars on dog day-care and playgroup matters for several organizations including the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the American Boarding Kennel Association, Groom Classic, Groom Expo, and the Pet Services Expo.
"I have an excellent working relationship with local veterinarians as well as the Prince William Animal Control Bureau. I have been recommended by both groups to evaluate potentially dangerous dogs. I am an active member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and have a B.A. degree from Roanoke College. I regularly attend dog-training seminars and have earned level one certification through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers (CCPDT), the first national certification for dog trainers.
"I live in Stafford, Virginia with my husband, Greg; our children, Leanna and Nathan; and two dogs, Carrie and Denver. When I'm not dealing with dogs, I am a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve."
