SIDELIGHTS:
Cynthia Joy Brown told CA: "I write to inspire people to think about change and growth. I am particularly interested in the American West as a place of personal development, an environment for self-realization. I like Western history and popular Western culture.
"My writing process is intuitive and fact-based at the same time. I write to resolve issues, to search for enlightenment, to think more clearly about the human condition, and to entertain. I continue to be most interested in style: language, poetry, and prose; that is, how writing sounds as well as what it means—in short, the art of craft. I hope to leave something behind in my work that will endure and grow in relevance.
"Inspiration comes from my own past, and from the issues facing women particularly in finding out who they are. I've recently switched from historical fiction to contemporary fiction, which was very liberating. But I'm headed 'back into time' again."
