Heather Clements once told CA: "My primary motivation for writing is to combine academic and spiritual interests with my commitment to neglected areas of my discipline, particularly the inclusion of the voices of women. I am also interested in the influence of popular culture on the spirituality of this allegedly ‘post-Christian’ era."
More recently she added: "I have been particularly influenced by the work of liberation theologians, especially ‘womanist’ writers."
