SIDELIGHTS:
Genie Davis writes romance novels and television documentaries and scripts for corporate films. She is also the author of erotica, under the pseudonym Nikki Alton. Her debut novel, The Model Man, finds the protagonist, Christie, posing as a psychic when homicide detective Joe Richter enters her life. Together they drive to the home of a deceased male model; during the drive, Christie is able to extract information from him about stolen champagne, about which she is supposed to provide some clues. Christie is then attacked in her apartment and the attacker is found with his hands severed. When she talks to the police, they say that there is no Joe Richter on the force. Booklist reviewer Diana Tixier Herald wrote that the romantic mystery "is truly a find. The protagonists are interesting; their love affair is convincing."
The main character in Five o'Clock Shadow is Jessie Adams, a California disk jockey whose best friend, Lisa, is threatened with the loss of her music club because of rezoning. Jessie runs for the vacant position on the town council, hoping to win and then have to power to sway the decision in Lisa's favor. Jessie is in a relationship with detective Frank Jackson, and when her opponents begin dying and Jessie receives death threats telling her to drop out of the race, Frank is there to protect her. The novel was reviewed for BookLoons by Martina Bexte, who wrote: "Genie Davis has written a fun and breezy story. Jessie is a delight…. Frank is a great love interest." Bexte concluded by calling Five o'Clock Shadow "an entertaining romance with just the right touch of mystery."
