SIDELIGHTS:

Kelly Di Domenico told CA: "If newborns could speak, I think the first thing out of my little pink newborn mouth, as I looked toward my mother with my still-squinting eyes, would have been, ‘Why was I born?’ Right from the start, mine was a question-plagued life (or I guess it was my mother's life that became question-plagued). The only way I could make sense of it all was by writing: writing about what ifs, what nows, why this and why that. It was, and still is, the only way for me to process every new discovery I make, every new piece of information I take in, and every new feeling I have. So, when I had the opportunity to write a book of biographies of female scientists and put myself into the lives of women from different eras and ask the questions they would have asked at those times, I jumped at it. Their lives, I learned, were equal quests for answers and understanding. Undoubtedly, I will continue to apply this inquisitive spirit to the art of writing and apply the art of writing to my inquisitive spirit."
