SIDELIGHTS: Gerald G. Duffy told CA: "As a former classroom teacher myself, my motivation in writing is rooted in a desire to help practicing teachers deal effectively with the complexities of teaching literacy to twenty-five to thirty diverse children. As such, all my writing and research is designed to make day-to-day classroom teaching of reading more effective, especially for those struggling readers who do not learn to read easily. The enduring principle under-girding all my work is that classroom teaching requires thoughtfully adaptive decision-making, which means that teacher education is the priority issue."
