SIDELIGHTS: Scott Edelman is perhaps better known as a science-fiction magazine editor than he is as a writer, but over the course of three decades he has published a significant collection of horror and science-fiction short stories, as well as a novel. In his full-length work, The Gift, a gay couple move to a small town, only to face homophobia within their neighborhood and the unwanted attentions of a vampire in their new home. These Words Are Haunted collects some of editor Edelman's favorite short stories. As the title implies, horror predominates in this volume, with tales about zombies and celebrities returning from the dead. As Don D'Ammassa observed in Science Fiction Chronicle, Edelman's themes "are not pleasant ones," and he does not shy away from difficult psychological terrain. Nevertheless, D'Ammassa concluded that the work provides "witty, intelligent chills" for the discerning reader.

Since 2000, Edelman has served as editor of Science Fiction Weekly, an online magazine with nearly 175,000 registered readers. He is a frequent speaker at science fiction conventions and has been nominated for awards both as a writer and an editor.
