SIDELIGHTS: Ann Clark Espuelas and Sherri Brooks Vinton are the authors of The Real Food Revival: Aisle by Aisle, Morsel by Morsel. In the book, the authors encourage consumers of all levels, from cooks who prepare food for many to those who regularly make dinner for one, to "become aware of the food they eat, where it comes from, and how it's processed before it reaches their tables," noted Mark Knoblauch in Booklist. The authors seek a return to the days when there was a greater connection between the producers of food and those who consume it, and when food was more natural, safer, and more flavorful. They encourage shoppers to buy locally, to purchase organically grown food, to take advantage of foods that are in season, and to avoid shopping at huge chain stores and mega-supermarkets. They also discourage buying and eating food that has been genetically modified in any way.

The book "opens the eyes of the average consumer to what exactly it is that they are consuming—which sometimes is a far cry from the wholesome meal they had in mind," observed reviewer Erika Wright on the Travel Lady Web site. Espuelas and Vinton are "excellent researchers and top-notch storytellers," commented a Publishers Weekly contributor. Additionally, reviewer Pauline Baughman, writing in Library Journal, stated that the book will "help shoppers wade through the plethora of food-related jargon that clogs the supermarket aisles." Cheri Sicard, writing on FabulousFoods.com, also noted the book's useful aspects, calling it "a comprehensive resource packed with essential information that you'll refer to again and again."
