SIDELIGHTS:

Jordan E. Goodman once told CA: "I write about how people can make the most of their money. I also do speeches and appear frequently on radio and television programs, offering personal finance advice."

A nationally recognized expert on personal finance, Goodman has written numerous books on personal finance. In his book Everyone's Money Book, first published in 1993 with a third edition published in 2001, the author uses friendly, easy-to-understand language to help the common person manage his or her money wisely. The book includes worksheets, step-by-step instructions, charts, graphs, application forms, and quizzes. In addition, the author includes more than 6,000 resources to help readers turn the concepts he presents into action. David Rouse, writing in Booklist, noted that "this book covers every aspect of investing."

Master Your Money Type: Using Your Financial Personality to Create a Life of Wealth and Freedom looks at peoples' six individual financial personalities, from "High Rollers" who like to take risks to "Squirrels" who save for a rainy a day. The author even discusses "Ostriches," people who are fearful of money and hide their head in the sand instead of tackling money issues in a forthright manner. In this book the author focuses on helping people understand their attitudes toward money in order to create successful investment strategies based on their individual profiles. "Consult Goodman for radical money sense," wrote Barbara Jacobs in a review of Master Your Money Type in Booklist. Barbara J. Shildneck commented in the Journal of Accountancy: "This book is the fruit of his study of why clients kept repeating their financial mistakes."

In his 2008 book, Fast Profits in Hard Times: 10 Secret Strategies to Make You Rich in an Up or Down Economy, the author writes about how to make money in a declining economy. He discusses ten simple-to-implement investment venues that are little known outside the investment community. With a focus on earning the average investor high returns even when the economy is on a downturn, Goodman describes how the strategies work and provides a realistic portrayal of how much time the average investor will need to spend on each venue. The book includes discussions of factors such the amount of money needed to get started, expected returns on investments, and minimization of risks. It also includes information on important Web sites, associations, and companies. "Goodman slices through the acronym and jargon-filled world of current economics and investments to present an easy-to-read, easy to understand, compendium of investment maneuvers," wrote a contributor to the MyShelf.com Web site. Mark M. Owen commented on the Armchair Interviews Web site: "Fast Profits in Hard Times [is] well worth the money."
