See index for CA sketch: Born February 25, 1930, in Surrey, England; died of complications from heart surgery, June 13, 2006, in Newport Beach, CA. Activist and author. Guiver was an active champion of animal welfare issues who turned her interest into a lighthearted series of mystery novels featuring pet detective Delilah Doolittle. During her early career in England, she was a Fleet Street writer in London. She later became an American correspondent for women's magazines in England, settling down in Huntington Beach, California, in 1961. Guiver became an animal welfare activist after becoming a permanent resident, founding the Orange County chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; in addition, she was the cofounder of the Animal Assistance League of Orange County. Guiver debuted her series featuring Doolittle in 1997 with Delilah Doolittle and the Purloined Pooch (1997). Other books in the series include Delilah Doolittle and the Motley Mutts (1998), Delilah Doolittle and the Missing Macaw (2000), Delilah Doolittle and the Canine Chorus (2001), and the last installment, The Beastly Bloodline: A Delilah Doolittle Pet Detective Mystery (2003). She also self-published Animal Connections: The Complete Directory of Pet and Wildlife Resources.
