SIDELIGHTS:
Sarah Belk King is the editor of Bon Apetit magazine, as well as coauthor of cookbooks with Sara Foster and Eleanora Russo Scarpetta. With the former, she wrote The Foster's Market Cookbook: Favorite Recipes for Morning, Noon, and Night, which includes recipes that are available at the popular Foster's Markets in North Carolina. Many traditional and family recipes in the Southern tradition are included, as well as occasional forays into dishes with more exotic ingredients. A Publishers Weekly writer complimented the cookbook as being "well designed and user-friendly, making it a welcome addition for those who plan their meals with the seasons."
With Eleanora's Kitchen: 125 Fabulous Authentic Italian-American Recipes King assisted television celebrity chef Eleanora Russo Scarpetta, who first began appearing on television with Martha Stewart and has continued to gain acclaim since then. Reviewing the cookbook for Publishers Weekly, a critic noted that sometimes the instructions are difficult to follow and would have been better viewed on television: "At times … the superiority of TV as a teaching medium becomes obvious, as in Scarpetta's instructions for making tagliatelle." Nevertheless, the reviewer found much to appreciate in these recipes that combine the flavors of Naples and Palermo with the Bronx and Brooklyn.
