Freelance photographer, 1975-79; l'Agence Gamma, magazine photographer, 1980; Actuel, reporter and photographer, 1981-85; l'Agence France Presse à Abidjan, photographer in West Africa, 1985; Actuel, reporter and photographer, 1986-93; freelance reporter and photographer, 1993—. Also worked as university professor in Lima, Peru, as a farm worker in Canada, a travel companion in Asia, and a hotel employee.

Prix Villa Médicis, 1988; first prize, Wordl Press 91, 1991; prize in 2001, for work on Afghanistan.
