SIDELIGHTS: Susan McKay has nearly two decades of experience researching topics related to women in peacebuilding and armed conflict. McKay's Women and Peacebuilding was published in 2001 and written with Dyan E. Mazurana. The book examines how women from around the world work towards resolving conflict. Diana D'Souza, writing in the Online Journal of Peace and Conflict Resolution, praised the book's "solid contribution to conflict and peace studies." She stated: "For readers thirsty for solid information on women's peacebuilding, the material is gratifying."

McKay's 2004 publication, Where Are the Girls?: Girls in Fighting Forces in Northern Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique: Their Lives during and after the War, was also written with Mazurana. In this book, the pair analyze women or girls engaged in armed conflict in Northern Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique. Shadia Abdel Rahim Mohammed, reviewing the book in the Ahfad Journal, found that the book is "written in a good and clear style" and "raises the awareness of people."
