SIDELIGHTS: Together with frequent coauthor Rose Blue, Corinne J. Naden is the author of numerous books for elementary-aged readers that focus on U.S. history and culture, as well as books detailing the lives of men and women who have achieved greatness in many areas, including polio vaccine creator Jonah Salk; political leaders George W. Bush, Vladimir Lenin, Tony Blair, and Muammar Qaadafi; athletes Wilma Rudolph and Jerry Rice; civil servants Madeleine Albright and Condolezza Rice; and actors Nicholas Cage, Halle Berry, and Whoopi Goldberg. Praising the coauthors for their "clear, accessible language" in Lenin, Booklist reviewer Gillian Engberg added that Naden and Blue are careful to explain the terminology surrounding Lenin's rise to power in Russia following World War I, and also "offer plenty of historical background." In Muammar Qaadafi their discussion of the life of the Libyan ruler was praised for being "up to date" and a "useful choice" for young researchers, according to School Library Journal contributor Elizabeth Stumpf.
"Nonfiction fascinates me," Naden once commented, "it always has. I remember the sense of anticipation I used to feel on the first day of a high school or college class, pen ready and blank notebook open to capture all the marvelous new information that was going to come my way. I get that same sense today when I sit in front of the computer with brand new materials spread all over the desk, but now I'm the one about to send out all that marvelous new information—perhaps to someone who'll receive it with the same thrill I did."
