SIDELIGHTS: P. R. Soni told CA: "Mechanical alloying is a novel processing technique that evolved in 1968. It is now capable of developing various new engineering materials that incorporate the unique properties required for high-tech areas. A lot of research and development activities have taken place in various parts of the world since then, but all are scattered. To bring all these activities under one umbrella to facilitate beginners, students, research scholars, and practicing engineers, I wrote the first book on the subject of mechanical alloying."
