SIDELIGHTS: Terry Stevenson is a bird tour guide for the Field Guides Tour Company in Nakuru, Kenya, Africa. He has led tours in Africa, Madagascar, and Papua New Guinea. On November 30, 1986, Stevenson set a new World Big-Day record after seeing and recording 342 species of birds in one day in Kenya.

Stevenson coauthored Field Guide to the Birds of East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi with John Fanshawe. In the book Stevenson and Fanshawe provide information on 1,388 species of birds in East Africa. For each bird the authors provide an informative description, a color picture, and maps showing where the bird can be seen. Times Literary Supplement contributor Oliver M. Ashford noted, "This excellent guide book will be greatly welcomed by bird-watchers who are visiting East Africa." A New Scientist contributor concluded, "This is a magnificent work, and as essential as binoculars for anyone visiting East Africa."
