SIDELIGHTS:
Sherry E. Sullivan is an associate professor of management at Memphis State University and author, with Lisa A. Mainiero, of The Opt-Out Revolt: Why People Are Leaving Companies to Create Kaleidoscope Careers. The book examines why both men and women are choosing to go it alone rather than climb the corporate ladder. Using quantitative and qualitative research from a five-year period, the authors reason that for cultural, biological, and psychological reasons, more people are choosing to restructure their careers, with the ultimate goal of spending more time outside of the company walls. Heidi Senior in the Library Journal noted that "job seekers, career changers, and researchers will find this book useful." In Armchair Interviews, Celia Renteria Szelwach recommended the book, commenting that "human resources professionals, academics, and executive/career transition coaches will gain value from reading this book." She concluded: "It's a keeper!"
