SIDELIGHTS:

Susan Wright is an author who writes everything from fantasy novels and contributions to the "Star Trek" series to nonfiction books on art and how-to's on eliminating clutter and pleasing one's partner. Wright has several art books to her credit, including New York City in Photographs, 1850-1945, a collection of more than 250 photographs taken from before the Civil War to the end of World War II. All five boroughs are represented by photographs that reflect the changes in the city over time. The Bible in Art includes reproductions of the work of such artists as Michaelangelo, Rafael, and Rembrandt. Georgia O'Keeffe: An Eternal Spirit is a study of the American artist and includes seventy color reproductions of her paintings, from her early years in New York to the southwestern landscapes, bleached bones, and flowers for which she is best known. Also included are black-and-white photographs by others who have documented O'Keeffe's life and work, including those by Alfred Stieglitz and Myron Wood.

Wright's books on popular culture include Destination Mars: In Art, Myth, and Science, which she wrote with Jay Barbree and Martin Caidin. This study of the red planet covers how it has been perceived over time, its observation and exploration, and current projects involving Mars. UFO Headquarters: Investigations on Current Extraterrestrial Activity is an investigation of highly classified government projects carried out at "Area 51" near Las Vegas, Nevada, and includes profiles of several of the well-known personnel most closely involved, including John Lear, Glenn Campbell, and Bob Lazar, astronaut Gordon Cooper, and researcher Harold E. Puthoff. Wright questions the government's secrecy in light of its position that UFOs do not exist. She considers the 1947 incident that occurred in Roswell, New Mexico, where a flying saucer was alleged to have landed, and includes popular UFO-oriented Web sites, organizations, and other resources for further reference.

Wright, who is a fan of the "Star Trek" series, has written a number of books set in the world created by Gene Rodenberry. She also branched out into her own science fiction series with her "Slave Trade" trilogy. In the first volume, protagonist Rose Rico finds herself one of the sex slaves being traded to the Alphas in exchange for their technology. In the second and third volumes, she embarks on adventures with the goal of liberating Earth.

Wright, who is a self-described sadomasochist, is the media spokesperson for the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. She has written sexual fantasy novels that include To Serve and Submit, a tale with a Norse-like setting in which the protagonist, Marja, is sold by her father to Lexander, who with his partner, Helanas, deals in trading sex slaves and teaching them the art of pleasing. Marja becomes a submissive and takes the place of Lady Silveta, whose husband will be slain if she does not submit to Birgir Barfoot. Marja is beaten and the husband slain, and as the story develops, Marja and Lexander, who have fallen in love, and Silveta escape with the help of the olfs, spirits whose community Marja has shared. Jackie Cassada noted in a Library Journal review that this novel contains sexually explicit material and is intended for mature readers. She also remarked that the story features "vivid cultures and lots of action."
