-oma suffix repr. modL. -ōma — Gr. -ōma, as in rhízōma, sárkōma, tríkhōma, f. vbs. in -oūsthai, as rhizoūsthai take root, f. rhíza ROOT. (i) Used to denote a formation or member of the nature of that denoted by the radical part; now superseded by -ome, as in RHIZOME; (ii) used in names of tumours or other morbid growths, as SARCOMA.
