ATA Abbrev. for Advanced Technology Attachment Interface. A parallel interface used for attaching storage devices and supported by the IBM PC BIOS (see also IDE, EIDE). ATA was followed by ATA-2, used in the IDE interface; and ATA-3 and ATA-4, also known as Ultra DMA, UDMA, and Ultra-ATA, which allow faster access speeds.
