SGML
SGML Abbrev. for standard generalized mark-up language. An international standard metalanguage (ISO 8859) used for defining the syntax of textual mark-up languages. This enables both sender and receiver of the text to identify its structure (e.g. title, author, header, paragraph, etc.).
